The four kinds of helper

Freelancers on gig sites install an open model and chat interface on your computer, often for under a few hundred dollars, and then they are gone. Local IT firms can do it if they have done it before, which many have not. Managed private-AI shops run self-hosted models for companies, with setup fees and monthly fees that vary widely by vendor. Freeborn Labs does a done-for-you personal and executive version.

What differs between them

Four things: whose account it runs in, whether it acts on your email and calendar or only chats, whether image and video are included, and who answers when it breaks. Cheap gigs usually cover chat only and offer no support. Managed shops are built for company data, not for refusals or personal assistants.

What Freeborn Labs does

We build in a cloud account that you own, connect email, calendar and contacts, add image and video tools, and stay on call. Price is $10,000 setup plus $48,000 a year or $4,800 a month, compute at cost. We work remotely, so there is nothing to install on site. We are not for everyone, and we say when a cheaper route fits you better.

Questions to ask anyone

Whose account holds the data? How are keys stored and revoked? What happens if the host bans the machine? What is excluded from the price? Who do I call and how fast do they answer? Ask for the answers in writing before paying.

Can a freelancer set up a private AI?

No. Setup is remote.
